How to Explain the Meaning of Christmas to Your Hindu Friends

It’s the Christmas season and it’s a great time to discuss the true meaning of Christmas with your international friends. If your friends come from a Hindu background, there’s a few key words and helpful things to know that will help them understand the true meaning of Christmas in a way that they can "experience" it.

Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect
— 1 Peter 3:5

I recorded a short video for you to role model my answer when my fictional Hindu friend Gita asks me, "What's the meaning of Christmas?" You can watch me give a quick one-minute answer and a longer ten-minute answer, so you can get a few ideas for your own way of discussing Christmas with your Hindu friends.

You’ll be ready when you're hanging out with your Hindu friend decorating Christmas cookies or visiting Santa at the mall with your kiddos, and they ask you what all of this is about.

If your friend doesn’t actually ask you about the meaning of Christmas, I encourage you to take the lead and say: "All these traditions are fun. But do you know the true meaning of Christmas?"
